About Us

We are a family of believers, saved by God’s grace, not our own good works, and adopted by Him. We acknowledge our imperfections and strive to follow Jesus daily. We believe in the good news of Jesus Christ as described in the Bible: He is the Son of God, who lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later. God loves all people and calls us to love one another, recognizing the inherent value and worth of every individual, created in His image. Therefore, regardless of your past, doubts, or struggles, you are welcome in God’s house and you are welcome here!

Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to look us up. Whether you have been part of a church your whole life, are coming back after a long time away, or have never set foot in one, we are genuinely glad you are here.

We are an ordinary group of people — families, students, professionals, retirees — trying to follow Jesus together honestly. We do not have it all figured out, and we are not pretending to. What we can promise you is a warm welcome, straightforward teaching from the Bible, and people who will learn your name.

Come as you are. There is no entry requirement, and nobody will single you out or ask you for money.

Our story

From a Basement Fellowship to a Growing Family of Faith

In 2019, Step Up Church began in Auburn Bay SE, Calgary, Alberta, in the basement of our pastor’s residence. What started with just seven people was more than a small gathering—it was the beginning of a God-given journey of faith, prayer, evangelism, and discipleship.

In that humble basement, we gathered to worship, study God’s Word, pray, encourage one another, and seek God’s direction. We began with little in our hands, but with a growing conviction that God was calling us to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As God blessed the fellowship, souls were added and ministries began to multiply. The small gathering could no longer be contained within the walls of the basement, and God opened the next door.

From the pastor’s residence, we moved into a rental clubhouse in Copperfield SE, Calgary, creating more room for fellowship, worship, and ministry. As the church continued to grow, God once again provided an opportunity for us to move forward. We transitioned into a sub-leased warehouse, which we prayerfully and purposefully converted into a place of worship.

Yet God was not finished.

As the congregation and ministries continued to grow, He opened another door—a larger leased commercial space, zoned for use as a church this time in the NE part of the city of Calgary. Each move became more than a change of location. It became a testimony of God’s faithfulness and a reminder that every step of our journey has been directed by Him.

Our story has never been primarily about buildings. It has always been about people—souls being reached, lives being transformed, disciples being made, and ministries being raised up for the glory of God.

From seven people gathered in a pastor’s basement to a growing church family serving the community and reaching beyond its walls, we continue to believe that God has more ahead.

We are committed to faithfully responding to His call—to bring Jesus Christ into our hearts, our communities, and the world, and to move forward with passionate, prayerful, and persistent evangelism.

We call our church Step Up because we believe the Christian life is a continual response to God’s call: to step up in faith, step up in prayer, step up in service, step up in love, and step up in sharing the Gospel.

Our story is still being written.

And through every season, every move, every ministry, and every soul, one truth remains:

God has been faithful every step of the way.

What to expect on a Sunday

Services last about ninety minutes. We sing together, someone teaches from a passage of the Bible, and we pray. There is tea and coffee afterwards, and someone at the door would love to say hello.

  • Getting here: Ample parking available on site.
  • Children: Kids are welcome in the service, and there is a dedicated kids programme during the teaching.
  • Accessibility: The building is step-free; however, the worship hall is located in the upper room. Please let us know in advance if we can help in any way.
