Community Outreach

Step Up Church | Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Lina Zamorano serves in Community Outreach as a Lead alongside her husband June Glen Zamorano at Step Up Church, with a heart for connecting people to Christian community and creating welcoming opportunities to explore faith through the Alpha Course.

Her ministry is centered on a simple desire: to help people feel welcomed, heard, and valued while creating space for honest conversations about life, faith, God, and Jesus Christ.

A Heart for People

Lina believes that every person has a story and that meaningful ministry often begins with simply being willing to listen.

People come to church and explore faith from many different backgrounds. Some may have grown up in Christianity, while others may be completely new to the idea of following Jesus.

Lina desires to meet people wherever they are in their journey and help create an environment where they can ask questions without fear, share their experiences openly, and discover the hope found in Jesus.

Her approach to outreach is built around relationship, hospitality, compassion, and genuine care.

Serving Through Alpha

A key part of Lina's outreach ministry is supporting the Alpha Course, which provides an accessible and welcoming environment for people to explore Christianity.

Through Alpha, participants have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in conversations, hear the Christian message, and connect with others who are also exploring faith.

Lina understands that sometimes the most important first step is simply an invitation.

A person may begin by coming to dinner, joining a conversation, or attending Alpha out of curiosity—and discover along the way that God is inviting them into something much deeper.

Creating a Place to Belong

Lina believes that people need more than information; they need community.

Her desire is to help create a welcoming atmosphere where participants know they are accepted and valued regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey.

Through hospitality and relationship-building, she helps foster an environment where people can:

  •  Ask honest questions
  •  Explore Christianity
  •  Build meaningful friendships
  •  Share their stories
  •  Discover God's love
  •  Encounter the Gospel
  •  Take their next step toward Jesus

For Lina, outreach is about creating genuine connections rather than simply inviting people to attend an event.

Evangelism Through Relationships

Lina believes evangelism begins with relationships.

Sharing the Gospel is not simply about having the right words. It is also about demonstrating the love of Christ through the way we listen, care, welcome, encourage, and serve others.

She believes a simple conversation can open a door, a friendship can build trust, and an invitation can become the beginning of a person's journey toward Christ.

Her desire is to help Step Up Church become a community where people outside the church feel comfortable asking questions and exploring faith.

Helping People Take Their Next Step

The heart of Step Up Church is a call to Step Up—to continually move closer to God and respond to His purposes.

Lina's ministry reflects that same invitation.

For someone who is curious, the next step may be simply asking a question.

For someone searching for community, it may be joining Alpha.

For someone exploring Christianity, it may be discovering who Jesus is.

For someone ready to follow Christ, it may be beginning a life of discipleship.

Lina's desire is to help people take their next step, without pressure and with genuine care.

A Welcoming Approach to Evangelism

Lina understands that people can sometimes feel intimidated by church or uncertain about whether they belong.

She wants outreach to communicate a different message:

You are welcome.
Your questions are welcome.
Your story matters.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
There is a place for you here.

Through Alpha and outreach, she helps create opportunities for people to discover that Christianity is not simply a set of beliefs—it is an invitation to know Jesus and become part of His community.

Supporting the Mission of Step Up Church

Lina's ministry contributes to the broader mission of Step Up Church as a Christ-centered, prayerful, evangelistic, discipleship-focused, and multiplying church.

Evangelism is an important expression of that mission.

The Church is called not only to gather together, but also to reach beyond its walls and share the hope of the Gospel with the community.

Lina helps support this calling by building relationships and creating accessible pathways for people to encounter Christian faith.

Building an Outreach Culture

Lina believes outreach should become part of the culture of the entire church.

Every member of the church can participate in evangelism through:

Prayer.
Friendship.
Hospitality.
Invitation.
Listening.
Service.
Testimony.
Sharing the Gospel.

Her hope is to encourage believers to look beyond the Sunday gathering and recognize the opportunities God provides every day to connect with people who may be searching for hope, purpose, and truth.

The Power of an Invitation

One of Lina's passions is helping people understand the importance of simply inviting someone into community.

A person may decline an invitation, but they may also say yes.

That one yes can lead to a conversation.

That conversation can lead to friendship.

That friendship can open the door to faith.

And faith can lead someone to Jesus.

Lina believes that we never know what God can do with one simple invitation.

Walking Alongside People

Lina understands that faith journeys take time.

Some people may immediately respond to the Gospel, while others may need months or even years of questions, conversations, relationships, and experiences before they are ready to make a commitment to Christ.

Her desire is to patiently walk alongside people, offering encouragement and creating opportunities for them to continue exploring.

She believes that the role of outreach is not to force a decision, but to faithfully create opportunities for people to encounter the truth and love of Jesus.

Encouraging the Church to Go

Lina's ministry also reflects the call for believers to move beyond the walls of the church.

Evangelism happens in everyday places:

At work.
 In neighborhoods.
 Over coffee.
 Around the dinner table.
 Among friends.
 Within families.
 Through community relationships.

She encourages believers to recognize that they are already surrounded by people who may be searching for hope and meaning.

The mission begins when we are willing to notice them, love them, and start a conversation.

Her Vision for Outreach

Lina's vision is to see Step Up Church become a church known for its welcome, generosity, relationships, and passion for reaching people with the Gospel.

She longs to see:

People welcomed.
Questions encouraged.
Friendships formed.
Faith explored.
Jesus proclaimed.
Lives transformed.
Disciples developed.
And the Gospel carried into the community.

Her prayer is that every person who encounters Step Up Church would experience the love of Christ and have an opportunity to take a meaningful next step.

The Step Up Call

Lina embraces the Step Up Church message:

Step up in faith.
Step up in prayer.
Step up in love.
Step up in hospitality.
Step up in courage.
Step up in service.
Step up in sharing the Gospel.
Step up and follow Jesus.

And for those who are still exploring faith:

Step up and ask.
Step up and explore.
Step up and connect.
Step up and discover.

There is always another step.

Her Heart for Evangelism

Lina's heart for outreach can be summed up in one desire:

To create welcoming opportunities for people to explore faith, experience genuine community, encounter the love of Jesus, and take their next step toward Him.

Through Evangelism & Outreach and the Alpha Course, Lina Zamorano continues to serve with compassion, hospitality, and a passion for people.

Her ministry is ultimately about more than organizing a course or an outreach event.

It is about building bridges, opening doors, starting conversations, and pointing people to Jesus Christ.

Welcome. Connect. Explore. Discover.

Every conversation. Every question. Every person.

All for the glory of Jesus Christ.
