Step Up Church | Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Sonny Agbay is a founding member, Elder, Facilities Lead and Finance minister of Step Up Church, faithfully serving the church through spiritual leadership, stewardship, and a deep commitment to the church family.

From the earliest days of Step Up Church, Sonny has been part of the journey of building a Christ-centered community. His service reflects a willingness to contribute not only through ministry and leadership, but also through the practical responsibilities that help a growing church remain healthy, accountable, and focused on its mission.

A Founding Member

As a founding member, Sonny has been part of the story of Step Up Church from its beginning.

Founding a church requires faith, sacrifice, perseverance, and a willingness to serve through seasons of uncertainty and growth. Sonny has remained committed to the church's journey, helping support its development and contributing to the foundation upon which the ministry continues to grow.

His story reflects the heart of Step Up Church: taking steps of faith, trusting God, and serving together.

Serving as an Elder

As an Elder, Sonny provides spiritual leadership, encouragement, wisdom, and support to the Step Up Church family.

His role is rooted in servant leadership and a desire to help strengthen the spiritual health and unity of the church. Alongside the pastoral leadership, he seeks to encourage believers, support the ministry, pray for the church, and help cultivate an environment where people can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

For Sonny, leadership is not primarily about position. It is about faithfulness, responsibility, humility, and service.

Serving as Treasurer

Sonny also serves as the Treasurer of Step Up Church, helping oversee the church's financial stewardship and accountability.

This responsibility is an important part of supporting the practical and organizational health of the church. Good stewardship allows the church to responsibly manage the resources entrusted to it and continue pursuing its mission.

Sonny approaches this responsibility with a commitment to integrity, transparency, accountability, and wise stewardship.

He recognizes that the church's financial resources are ultimately God's provision and should be handled carefully, prayerfully, and responsibly.

A Stewardship Mindset

For Sonny, stewardship extends beyond finances.

Biblical stewardship involves faithfully managing everything God places in our hands—including our time, talents, relationships, opportunities, and resources.

His service as Treasurer reflects the importance of being trustworthy with what has been entrusted to the Church.

Whether supporting ministry initiatives, helping maintain financial accountability, or serving the wider church family, his goal is to ensure that resources are managed in a way that supports the mission and glorifies God.

“Faithful stewardship is about managing what God has entrusted to us so that it can serve His purposes.”

Supporting the Vision of Step Up Church

Sonny serves as part of the leadership team supporting the broader vision of Step Up Church as a Christ-centered, prayerful, evangelistic, discipleship-focused, and multiplying church.

His responsibilities as Elder and Treasurer bring together two important dimensions of church leadership: spiritual care and practical stewardship.

He understands that a healthy church needs both a strong spiritual foundation and responsible leadership.

His desire is to help ensure that Step Up Church remains focused on its calling while wisely managing the resources and responsibilities necessary to fulfill that calling.

A Heart for the Church Family

Beyond his formal responsibilities, Sonny values the importance of Christian community.

He believes the Church is a family where believers encourage one another, pray for one another, serve one another, and walk through life's seasons together.

His involvement as a founding member has given him the opportunity to experience the importance of relationships and shared commitment in building a healthy church community.

He desires to see people feel welcomed, connected, supported, and encouraged as they take their own steps of faith.

Leadership Through Service

Sonny believes that leadership begins with a willingness to serve.

Whether serving as an Elder, Treasurer, or founding member, his approach is centered on responsibility rather than recognition.

He seeks to contribute wherever there is a need and to support the church's mission with consistency and faithfulness.

His example demonstrates that ministry is not limited to what happens on a platform. Behind every healthy church are people willing to pray, serve, give, organize, encourage, and faithfully carry responsibility.

Building a Strong Foundation

As a founding member, Sonny understands the importance of establishing a strong foundation for the generations that follow.

The decisions and values established today can influence the church for years to come.

He desires to help build a church characterized by:

  • Biblical faithfulness
  • Financial integrity
  • Prayer
  • Servant leadership
  • Accountability
  • Unity
  • Generosity
  • Discipleship
  • Community
  • Mission

His hope is that Step Up Church will continue to grow with a foundation strong enough to support future generations.

Investing in the Future

Sonny believes that responsible stewardship today helps create opportunities for ministry tomorrow.

As Treasurer, he understands the importance of making thoughtful decisions that support the church's current needs while keeping an eye toward its future mission.

As an Elder and founding member, he also recognizes that the most important investment is in people.

Resources can support ministry, but people carry the Gospel forward.

His desire is therefore to help create an environment where leaders can be developed, ministries can flourish, families can be supported, and disciples can be equipped to serve.

The Step Up Call

The message of Step Up Church is a call to continually move closer to God and respond to His purposes.

Sonny embraces that call through his service and encourages others to:

Step up in faith.
Step up in prayer.
Step up in stewardship.
Step up in service.
Step up in generosity.
Step up in leadership.
Step up in responsibility.
Step up and follow Jesus.

He believes that every believer has something to contribute and that God's work is strengthened when people faithfully use what He has entrusted to them.

A Legacy of Faithfulness

Sonny's contribution to Step Up Church is reflected in both his visible leadership and the behind-the-scenes responsibilities he carries.

As a founding member, he has helped walk with the church through its journey.

As an Elder, he contributes to its spiritual leadership and care.

As Treasurer, he helps steward the resources entrusted to the church.

Together, these roles reflect a life of service, responsibility, integrity, and commitment to God's work.

His Vision for Step Up Church

Sonny desires to see Step Up Church become a strong, healthy, generous, and multiplying church that remains faithful to Jesus Christ.

He longs to see:

People encounter Jesus.
Families find belonging.
Believers grow in faith.
Leaders are equipped.
Resources are stewarded wisely.
Generosity becomes a way of life.
The community is served.
The Gospel is shared.
Disciples make disciples.
And Jesus receives all the glory.

His heart for ministry can be summed up in one desire:

To faithfully serve God, steward what He has entrusted to the Church, strengthen His people, and help build a Christ-centered community that can impact generations to come.

As a Founding Member, Elder, and Treasurer of Step Up Church, Sonny Agbay continues to serve with faithfulness, humility, responsibility, and a heart for the church family.

His ministry is a reminder that every role in the Church matters—from the pulpit to the prayer room, from ministry leadership to financial stewardship, every act of faithful service can be used by God for His Kingdom purposes.

Step Up in Faith.

Step Up in Stewardship.
Step Up in Service.
Step Up Together.
Step Up and Follow Jesus.

Every step. Every resource. Every person. Every generation.

All for the glory of Jesus Christ.
