Step Up Church | Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Virgie Darcera serves as an Elder at Step Up Church, actively involved in Prayer Intercessory Ministry and Online Life Group Lead faithfully supporting the spiritual life, unity, and growth of the church family. With a heart for God and a genuine desire to serve others, she seeks to encourage believers, strengthen relationships within the church, and help people take meaningful steps in their walk with Jesus Christ.

A Heart for Serving

At the heart of Virgie’s ministry is a simple desire: to serve God by serving people.

She understands that the Church is more than a place where people gather on Sundays. It is a spiritual family where people encourage one another, carry one another through difficult seasons, celebrate together, pray together, and grow together.

Through her service as an Elder, Virgie seeks to help cultivate a church environment where people feel welcomed, valued, supported, and encouraged to grow in faith.

Serving as an Elder

As an Elder, Virgie contributes to the spiritual leadership and pastoral care of Step Up Church.

Her role includes encouraging members of the church family, supporting the pastoral leadership, praying for the needs of the congregation, and helping promote unity and spiritual maturity within the church.

She approaches leadership as an opportunity for servanthood rather than recognition.

For Virgie, being an Elder means being available to listen, encourage, pray, serve, and walk alongside others as they navigate their faith journey.

Encouraging People in Their Faith

Virgie has a heart for encouraging people to continue moving forward in their relationship with God.

She recognizes that every person is at a different place in their spiritual journey. Some may be taking their first steps toward faith, while others may be growing into leadership and ministry.

Her desire is to meet people where they are and encourage them to take their next step.

That may mean:

  •  Growing deeper in God's Word
  •  Developing a stronger prayer life
  •  Becoming more involved in worship
  •  Finding meaningful Christian community
  •  Discovering spiritual gifts
  •  Serving others
  •  Growing in faith and character
  •  Learning to trust God through difficult seasons
  •  Becoming an encouragement to others

Building a Strong Church Family

Virgie believes that healthy Christian community is built through relationships.

People need people.

The Church becomes stronger when believers choose to love, forgive, encourage, pray for, and serve one another.

As an Elder, she desires to help cultivate a culture where people do not feel like strangers in a crowd, but become part of a genuine church family.

Her hope is that everyone who comes through the doors of Step Up Church will discover that there is a place for them here.

A Servant Leader

Virgie believes leadership begins with humility.

Rather than seeking recognition, she desires to faithfully contribute wherever God has given her an opportunity to serve.

Her leadership reflects the principle that ministry is often found in the simple things: listening to someone who needs encouragement, praying with someone going through a difficult season, welcoming a new person, helping a fellow believer, or simply being present when someone needs support.

These acts of faithfulness may seem small, but they can have a lasting impact on people's lives.

Supporting the Vision of Step Up Church

Virgie serves alongside the pastoral and ministry leadership in support of the broader vision of Step Up Church.

The church seeks to be a Christ-centered, prayerful, evangelistic, discipleship-focused, and multiplying church.

As an Elder, Virgie helps support that vision by encouraging spiritual growth, strengthening relationships, and helping create a culture where believers are equipped to live out their faith.

Her desire is for the church to remain firmly centered on Jesus Christ while continuing to reach people and serve the community.

Prayer and Spiritual Encouragement

Virgie recognizes the importance of prayer in the life of the Church.

Prayer connects believers to God, strengthens faith, and reminds the Church that ministry is ultimately dependent upon Him.

She desires to encourage people to bring their hopes, challenges, families, decisions, and dreams before God.

Her heart is to see prayer become more than something the Church does during a service—it should become a way of life.

Helping People Take Their Next Step

The message of Step Up Church is built around a simple invitation:

Step Up.

Step up in faith.
 Step up in prayer.
 Step up in worship.
 Step up in God's Word.
 Step up in service.
 Step up in love.
 Step up in leadership.
 Step up and follow Jesus.

Virgie embraces this calling by encouraging people not to become comfortable where they are, but to continue growing in their relationship with God.

She believes that no matter where someone begins, there is always another step they can take.

Encouraging Every Generation

Virgie believes the Church has a responsibility to care for and encourage people of every generation.

Children, youth, adults, families, seniors, newcomers, and longtime believers all have an important place within the body of Christ.

Her desire is to contribute to a church culture where generations can worship together, learn from one another, and grow together.

She believes that spiritual legacy is built through relationships and that today's faithfulness can help shape tomorrow's generation.

A Culture of Love and Unity

Virgie desires to see Step Up Church characterized by genuine Christian love.

She believes unity does not mean everyone is the same. Instead, it means people with different backgrounds, personalities, experiences, and gifts can come together around their shared faith in Jesus Christ.

Her prayer is that Step Up Church would be known as a community where people experience:

Love.
Acceptance.
Grace.
Truth.
Prayer.
Encouragement.
Unity.
Servanthood.

A Legacy of Faithfulness

Virgie's ministry as an Elder is ultimately about faithful service.

She understands that serving God is not always about doing something visible or receiving recognition. Sometimes the greatest impact comes through quiet faithfulness—being present, praying consistently, encouraging others, and helping strengthen the people around you.

Her desire is to remain faithful to the responsibility God has entrusted to her and to use her influence to help others grow closer to Jesus.

Her Vision for Step Up Church

Virgie desires to see Step Up Church continue to grow as a healthy and Christ-centered community.

She longs to see:

People encounter Jesus.
Families find belonging.
Believers grow in faith.
People discover their gifts.
Leaders are equipped.
Generations worship together.
The community is served.
The Gospel is shared.
Disciples make disciples.
And everything points back to Jesus Christ.

Her heart for ministry can be summed up in one desire:

To serve God faithfully, encourage His people, strengthen His Church, and help others take their next step toward Jesus.

As an Elder of Step Up Church, Virgie Darcera continues to serve with humility, compassion, faithfulness, and a heart for people.

Her ministry reflects an important truth: the Church grows stronger when ordinary people faithfully say yes to God's call to serve.

Step Up in Faith.

Step Up in Love.
Step Up in Service.
Step Up Together.
Step Up and Follow Jesus.

Every step. Every person. Every generation.

All for the glory of Jesus Christ.
